Renewable Energy Adoption
Micro Matic has transitioned to green electricity gradually but effectively. Four major entities—Micro Matic Germany, Micro Matic Lithuania, Micro Matic Sweden, and Micro Matic Luxembourg—now utilize 100% green electricity.
Micro Matic Oprema produces its own green electricity, though it currently supplements this with grid power to
meet total production needs. This transition resulted in a 39% decrease in Scope 2 (market-based) emissions compared to the base year.
At a group level transitioning to green electricity is performed gradually. We aim to help entities to reach their neutrality goals as re昀氀ected in our plans. This is clearly shown through calculations using the Market-Based Method,
which considers emission-free Guarantees of Origin (GOs) for procured electricity.
EXAMPLES OF DECARBONIZATION INITIATIVES IMPLEMENTED ACROSS SITES (ILLUSTRATIVE, NON-EXHAUSTIVE):
Micro Matic Denmark is on track to save 40,800 kWh per year with following projects:
• The High-Pressure Ventilator (September 2024): In the washing line, a 6 kW motor originally ran all day, consuming 35,000 kWh/year. By reprogramming the system to activate only when a “昀氀ightbar” is in line, the company is saving 23,000 kWh annually—a nearly 66% reduction for that single piece of equipment.
• The Corn Dryer Extraction (October 2024): Similar logic was applied to the corn dryer extraction system. Previously running constantly, it now only activates when production is actually occurring, cutting consumption from
6,500 kWh down to 1,400 kWh—an 80% energy saving.
• Brewery Department Extraction (June 2024): By restricting extraction to the summer months (May through
September), the company is saving 12,700 kWh per year.
• While the mechanical “low-hanging fruit” projects were implemented rapidly, the team also turned their attention to thermal e昀케ciency. Thermal imaging revealed signi昀椀cant heat loss from industrial ovens and washing
baths. In response, the baths were insulated, reducing heat loss and lowering energy consumption.
Micro Matic UKI undertook a dual transformation of its workspace to strip away unnecessary carbon costs:
• Outdated, energy-intensive lamps were stripped out and replaced with high-e昀케ciency LED lighting across all
production areas. This simple yet effective shift immediately lowered the site’s daily electricity draw.
• The transition continued in the Print Room, which was completely uprooted and relocated to a specialized new
work area. This new space was engineered with improved insulation to trap heat more effectively. Most importantly, the team abandoned traditional fossil fuels by swapping out old gas heaters for modern electric alternatives. By moving away from direct gas combustion, the facility has successfully eliminated a signi昀椀cant source
of its direct (Scope 1) emissions.
Micro Matic Beverage Trading (Tianjin) Co. Ltd revisited both how they build products and how they move them to
create a leaner, “greener” operation.
• The Manufacturing Evolution: The engineering team scrutinized the production of 昀氀at type bushes and realized
that investment casting was too resource heavy. By pivoting to a new way of stamping, they created a more
e昀케cient and lean manufacturing structure that requires less energy per unit produced.
• The Logistical Shortcut: To tackle transportation emissions, the team drastically shortened the travel distance
for purchased goods. Instead of the long-haul journey of shipping parts, China sites transitioned to local delivery from the Hub, cutting down on the fuel burned during transit.
• Localization Strategy: In an ambitious move to shrink their global supply chain footprint, Micro Matic Beverage
Trading (Tianjin) Co. Ltd began localizing products, shortening supply chains.
